The Orient restaurant is all deep-ochre walls, wicker screens and palms. Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan eatery is a dusky blue-and-white with elaborate sculptures and brass wall plates.
When you’re ready to explore, catch the nearby train to Colombo - it’ll take around an hour and will only set you back about twenty pence. Or turn to the friendly taxi service that’s based at the hotel and head off on day trips in their air-conditioned minibus.
